Client: Digital Scholarship, Critical Making, and Digital Collections
Management Team, Bryn Mawr College
Challenge: I created this postcard for an internal marketing campaign
to increase community use of LITS resources, specifically Domain of
One’s Own, a web-hosting service that allowed students/staff/faculty to
create individual domains and build websites via Wordpress, Scalar,
Omeka, Wiki, etc. This piece targeted students, intending to increase
student-created websites.
I chose the postcard format because it forced students to more tangibly
interact with the design vs. traditional means (e.g. posters). Not to
mention, its mailing capabilities further allowed the promotion of the
LITS brand to extend beyond campus.
I used lighter variations of the blue/yellow LITS brand palette, with
varying bursts of color—leading to a layout that was both crisp and
visually inviting. To appeal to students directly, I emphasized that the
service was free. Additionally, I layered relevant icons to highlight that
students could use their domains to infinitely express themselves via
sites, projects or galleries.
Role: Sole designer
Results: Once printed, these postcards were circulated in various
locations/departments around the College, leading to a 34% spike in
account sign-ups in 2 months, compared to the beginning of the
semester.
