WWOOF (Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms) is a global network that connects visitors, called WWOOFers, with organic farmers to promote educational and cultural exchange in ecological farming practices. Founded in 1971, WWOOF links people interested in learning about sustainable agriculture and organic farming with hosts who provide food, accommodation, and hands-on learning experiences on their farms. WWOOF operates in more than 132 countries worldwide, fostering a community focused on organic farming, sustainable living, and cultural exchange.
Participants, or WWOOFers, typically spend about half of each day helping with farm tasks and share daily life with their hosts, gaining insights into organic agriculture and sustainable lifestyle practices. Hosts benefit from exchanging knowledge and passion about ecological farming with visitors from diverse backgrounds.
WWOOF includes various national and independent organizations that facilitate these connections, and there are specific WWOOF platforms for different countries, such as WWOOF USA. For countries without a locally-based WWOOF organization, WWOOF Independents provides networking opportunities.
In summary, WWOOF is a way to live and learn on organic farms globally while contributing to sustainable agriculture and cultural exchange.
