Once upon a time, there was a tool designed to provide threat hunters with a wealth of information. But there was a problem—the tool provided too much information. It overwhelmed its users, leaving them frustrated and causing many to abandon their searches altogether.

That's when Captain UX—me—stepped in to save the day!

I knew the only way to fix this was to understand the way these threat hunters thought and operated. So, we rolled up our sleeves and conducted a series of user interviews, diving deep into their mental models and workflows. It quickly became clear that the problem wasn’t just the quantity of information, but how it was being presented.

Next, I dove into the data, gathering insights and compiling basic data objects that users actually needed. From there, we built a simple, low-fidelity wireframe that cut through the noise. We tested our ideas, fixed what wasn’t working, and fine-tuned the design until it aligned perfectly with the users’ needs.

The result? The drop-off rate improved dramatically—from a frustrating 60% to just 20%. The users could now navigate the tool with ease, finding the exact information they needed without feeling overwhelmed.

Was this the end? Not quite—the task may have been completed, but it was only the beginning of a smarter, user-centered approach to tackling complex challenges.
