Despite winning the FA Cup on Saturday, if you believe the rumours, Erik ten Hag could be close to the sack!
So, in honour of his name, here are TEN candidates from the past and future who may take over (they most likely won’t!)
PAST
Sir Alex Ferguson
If you want someone who knows what it’s like to manage Manchester United, then Sir Alex is your guy.
However, he is currently 82 years of age and Old Trafford is certainly not a retirement village!
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
If you want someone who knows what it’s like to manage and score the winner in the UCL final for United, then Ole is your guy.
His only transfer target will be Cristiano Ronaldo though which may cause some issues at board level.
Jose Mourinho
This one may PERHAPS be more realistic than the others, though Jose’s time at United will mostly be remembered for calling out Paul Pogba at any given opportunity and having a special bond with teacher’s pet Scott McTominay.
Lionel Scaloni
Someone who may actually be linked with the job - Scaloni won the 2022 World Cup as Argentina manager, and who doesn’t want to see a Lionel link-up between him and Messi at OT!?
Frank Lampard
Football Twitter will go into meltdown if this happens, the Chelsea legend failed to live up to his billing as gaffer in West London.
But COULD positive spells at Everton and Derby tempt Sir Jim Ratcliffe into appointing him? I considerably doubt it!
FUTURE
Cristiano Ronaldo
To be fair, this will probably happen at some point - however it seems like he is quite settled living a life of luxury over in Saudi Arabia at the moment!
Dave Brailsford
I mean he has got experience of managing top teams to medals!
However, Manchester United are definitely not a cycling club and won’t be competing in the Olympics.
Mark Goldbridge
He very often talks the talk, but could he walk the walk on the touchline at OT? The football world would not be prepared for this should it happen (there’s more chance of aliens invading the planet than this coming true!)
Kobbie Mainoo
He is often praised for his maturity and, to be fair, is one of United’s core players after another MOTM display in the FA Cup final.
The one slight issue for the moment is that he is only 19 years of age and may not have all the required coaching badges! (Definitely could happen in the future though!)
Optimus (Tesla Robot)
If the world gets taken over by AI, which - after seeing that it suggests you eat a rock a day - is probably unlikely, then why not get the OG of AI’s?
Elon Musk has said before of his desire to buy Manchester United, and what better way to endear yourself to your new fans than by putting your very own robot in charge of matches!
Any more who I’ve missed out? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments underneath the post!

Before he was announced as staying, I had the joy of working for a client - writing a satire piece for the website lolfootball.com as to who could've taken over
