The Texas Fire Fighters Home (TFFH) provides free temporary housing and support to firefighters and first responders receiving medical treatment in Houston. The original website successfully communicated the mission but suffered from outdated design, limited visual hierarchy, and unclear user flows.
The redesign aimed to modernize the brand, improve clarity, strengthen emotional connection, and drive conversions—primarily donations, volunteer sign-ups, and program awareness.
Problems
Outdated design with low emotional impact.
Poor content hierarchy and cluttered layout.
Weak storytelling and limited visuals.
Unclear donation/volunteer pathways.
Navigation felt dense and hard to follow.
Solutions
1. Modernized Visual Identity
Introduced a full-width hero with high-quality imagery.
Increased whitespace for cleaner layout and improved readability.
Consistent iconography and modern typography applied throughout.
2. Clear Content Structure & Hierarchy
Introduced section-based design with visual pacing.
Organized Mission, Who We Serve, and Why the Need into digestible blocks.
Added strong CTAs at the top and throughout the site.
3. Storytelling Through Media
Added a firefighter testimonial video to humanize the mission.
Introduced “People We’ve Helped” with real photos to show impact.
Front-loaded real narratives, not just text.
4. Improved Navigation & Interaction
Simplified menu with clean primary actions.
Added buttons for direct engagement: Donate, View Facility, Volunteer.
Better footer layout for quick access to key info.
