Luke 2:16

Illustrated and Animated Bible verse about Christmas.

Personal Project.

To celebrate Christmas, I decided to illustrate a Bible verse that presents this theme.

I made a sketch on the tablet to visualize how the characters would be distributed and the general outline of the scene. I wouldn’t want any important element to suffer any significant loss if the illustration were printed on a double page of a book. Therefore, I separated the groups of characters and also reserved an area for the biblical text, ensuring that there would be no cuts in the text, nor in the main characters.

At one point I felt the need to sketch two characters on paper. See below!

In the final line I preferred not to put anything on Joseph’s head, and I defined the details of his clothing better. I imagined that he might have a Jewish prayer shawl.

I also liked the part of the composition where the shepherds are entering through a Roman arch-shaped door.

Finishing this project I animated the illustration, thus generating a short video. I wanted to show, in a creative way, the shepherds walking quickly towards the newborn. Watch below!
