An incredible inventor flying high

Santos Dumont was a Brazilian inventor from the beginning of the 20th century. He created many flying apparatuses, and he flew on all of them! The initial ones were balloons and dirigibles with propellers and rudders. The 14-bis was the first heavier-than-air machine to fly, powered exclusively by its internal engine.

Breaking the limits

On October 19, 1901, he won a prize of 100,000 francs offered by the wealthy patron of the French Aero Club for the first airship to complete the journey from the Parc d’Aerostation at Saint-Cloud to the Eiffel Tower and back in less than 30 minutes.

Innovation as the focus of life

The animation addresses the issues of innovation and technology using the approach of Santos Dumont to his inventions and his commitment to rigorous work as the guiding line.

The dream of flying in 24 frames per second

The animations were drawn frame-by-frame in the Photoshop timeline and then exported as a PNG sequence into After Effects to be assembled with the other elements and backgrounds. The final version was edited in Premiere.
The 14-bis made the historic flight in 1906.
The second flying machine created by Santos Dumont was the Demoiselle, the precursor of the modern airplane.
