Case Study: Designing Short-Form Video Content for Retention
Short-form video content demands a balance between storytelling, pacing, and visual clarity. With extremely limited attention spans, the success of a video often depends on its ability to capture curiosity within the first few seconds.
My process begins with defining the central narrative or insight the video will communicate. Before any editing begins, I structure the video around a clear progression: a compelling hook, contextual framing, and a payoff that delivers value or perspective.
Storyboarding is used to determine how the narrative unfolds visually. This includes identifying where visual emphasis should occur, how pacing should accelerate or slow down, and how transitions can maintain viewer engagement.
During editing, attention is placed on visual rhythm, subtitle readability, and framing clarity. Since many viewers watch without sound, captions and visual cues become essential components of the storytelling process.
The final result is content designed not only to look engaging but to retain viewer attention and communicate ideas effectively within a short timeframe.
