Houses in Trees : Modern Living in Scandinavian Nature
Overview
The objective of this project was to redefine modern living by integrating high-end architectural standards with the raw beauty of Scandinavian forests. The challenge was to create a functional, year-round residence that coexists with the ecosystem without disrupting the natural landscape.
The Challenge
Building in dense nature requires more than just aesthetics; it involves strict environmental constraints. The primary challenge was to design a structural system that allows for modern comforts—such as thermal insulation and smart home integration—while maintaining a "light footprint" on the delicate forest floor and existing tree root systems.
The Solution
I approached this by implementing a biophilic design strategy. Using sustainable timber and modular construction techniques, we elevated the living spaces into the canopy.
Minimal Impact: Utilized specialized pier foundations to protect tree roots.
Materiality: Selected local Scandinavian pine and weather-resistant glass to ensure the structure ages beautifully with the environment.
Energy Efficiency: Integrated passive heating systems and high-performance glazing to handle sub-zero temperatures.
Low level camera angle.
Multiple houses block
Living Room with an open-plan kitchen.
View of nature trough the living space.
Bathroom with walk-in shower.
A shot from Daylight time.
Late night shot with warm interior lights.
Wild Nordic soul.
The Result
The project successfully delivered a series of modern "tree-houses" that serve as a blueprint for sustainable luxury.
Outcome: 100% integration with the natural topography.
Impact: The design has been recognized for its innovative approach to eco-tourism and sustainable residential architecture, proving that luxury and nature can thrive together.
