Project Overview

RentCycle is a mobile application that facilitates the convenient rental of bicycles. It aims to provide an easy and hassle-free experience for users to rent bicycles on-demand for short periods, encouraging sustainable and healthy transportation options in urban areas. The user can easily track their time as they cycle to ensure they don’t forget the return time of the bicycle. This is an advantage for the renting shop and the bicycler since there is a reduced number of errors during payment time as the renting payment is calculated by the number of hours spent with the bike.

Problem Statement & Possible Solution

Problems

The process of renting a bike can be cumbersome and time-consuming.
Customers often face challenges such as limited availability of bikes, long wait times, and complicated rental processes.
Most cyclers struggle with identifying possible cycling routes.

Solutions

A user-friendly and efficient bike renting application that can help customers easily rent a bike.
A time tracking feature to help the bicycler track the amount of time they’ve stayed with the bike.
A list of cycling routes that users can explore

Discover Phase

Qualitative Research

I sent interview questions to 10 participants on Reddit who have recently rented bicycles from rental bike shops. The aim was to get a deep understanding of the customer experience of different bike rental services, with the goal of identifying areas for improvement and making recommendations for enhancing bike rental service. The interview questions provided insights into the needs and expectations of customers who rent bicycles, which can help bike rental services better cater to their customers' needs and improve customer satisfaction.

Key Insights

Customers often have no idea about the availability of the bicycle of their preference
It is hard to keep track of the exact amount of hours cycled and most times customers estimate it
The users are not often sure of the availability of other bike accessories before they rent the bicycles
A possible route to follow while bicycling is a possible solution to avoid getting lost.

Quantitative Research

I did an online survey to identify patterns and similarities in what the potential user may want. 11 people responded which aided in framing the problem correctly.
