Digitizing Persian Pateh

The Story Behind This Project

My mom practices a traditional Persian needlework called Pateh.
Every piece is made by hand.
Every pattern takes hours of patience and focus.
Every color combination comes from years of experience.
But like many traditional artists, most of her work lived in a small circle of local buyers.
I wanted to change that.
I wanted people outside our city and even outside Iran to see how beautiful this art really is.
So I decided to help her bring Pateh into a digital world.

The Challenge

Handmade art has a problem.
People cannot imagine how it fits into modern life.
If you only show a piece of fabric, many people see it as decoration.
They do not immediately imagine it on a bag, a wall frame, or clothing.
The question became simple:
How can we help people imagine this art in their daily life?

My Idea

Instead of only showing the original pieces, I created visual concepts that show where this pattern can live.
Using Kittl, I transformed the Pateh patterns into modern product ideas such as
Wall frames
Cotton bags
Mugs
Table decorations
Small home accessories
Then I went one step further.
I created conceptual garments for women and men using these Persian patterns.
Dresses
Jackets
Formal suits
The goal was not to sell clothes.
The goal was to show how elegant Persian art can be when it meets modern design.

The Process

First I studied the original patterns my mom created.
Pateh has a unique rhythm.
Its curves and shapes are very different from western ornament styles.
Then I translated those patterns into digital compositions while keeping the spirit of the original work.
After that I explored different contexts
Products
Fashion
Home decoration
Each visual was created to help people imagine a real product.
Not just a pattern.
A lifestyle.

Why This Project Matters To Me

This project is personal.
It is not a client project.
It is about helping a traditional artist who happens to be my mom.
Many traditional crafts slowly disappear because they never find a place in modern markets.
I believe design can help bridge this gap.
Design can make tradition visible again.

The Goal

The goal of these visuals is simple.
Help people see the beauty of Persian needlework.
Not only as a traditional craft.
But as a timeless art that can live in modern products, fashion, and homes.
