Between Silk & Wool Cover Design

The cover features detailed, stylized silhouette illustrations which echo the various plot lines, characters and scenes. Mini vignettes in purposeful royal blue, are a nod to the iconic handmade Dutch Delft tiles.

The watercolour overlay evokes a sense of nostalgia, the book feels as though it is a bespoke hand painted piece of earthenware. Scenes of charming Dutch villages, flora and fauna are juxtaposed against the realities of war with soldiers and bomber aircraft. The young man on the front cover is of the novelist’s Grandfather, his WWII wartime experience was the inspiration for the story. Typography is Crimson Text, in various weights/styles for contrast, center aligned with increased kerning for visual balance and legibility. An e-book cover, paperback and large print versions were created.
