About Amazon forest
The Amazon rainforest, also known as the Amazonia or Amazon basin, is a vast region located in South America. It covers an area of approximately 6.7 million square kilometers and spans across nine countries, including Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana.
The Amazon rainforest is known for its incredible biodiversity, with an estimated 10% of the world's species calling it home. It is home to over 2.5 million insect species, tens of thousands of plant species, and more than 2,000 species of birds and mammals. This incredible biodiversity makes the Amazon rainforest a vital component of the planet's ecosystem.
The Amazon rainforest also plays a critical role in regulating the Earth's climate. The region's trees absorb a significant amount of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, making it an essential part of global efforts to combat climate change.
