Website Design and Development - Materion Matters

Materion Matters is an internal portal site for all Materion Corporation employees. They wished for an upgrade from Liferay 6.2 to Liferay 7 (DXP) and fresher look to the website. I was the lead UI/UX designer on this project.

The Materion team wanted a more modern look to their website. The Materion team and I worked together to research and find potential layouts of pages and look and feel.

The Materion team felt that their old website was busy and not user friendly throughout the entire website. Below are screenshots of the previous design. The wireframes below were part of the process of creating layouts that simplified any navigation and more organization to current and future pages.

Photographic-imagery is a big part of Materion's brand and identity. While keeping the imagery alive, I also wanted to incorporate more iconography for their navigation and visual design throughout the website.

The concept screens below were going to have the most change. I had the idea of either having the headers including imagery or having a solid color header using Materion Blue and their macro triangle graphic.

After Materion agreed to incorporate banner images, a brand new page was created: Brand Central. Brand Central was intended to house everything related to the Materion brand - brand guidelines, email templates, signatures, etc. The concepts involved laying out every element for the interior pages and making a decision on the proper imagery.

Procurement Portal was a current page on their website, but the Materion team wanted to give it a design upgrade due to heavy traffic and usage. The concepts involved laying out every element for the interior pages and making a decision on the proper imagery.

Through collaborative dialogue, Materion Matters transformed into a more modernized look with icons and imagery. Feedback was positive with employees feeling that the website was more engaging and less chaotic than their previous version.
