After working with the project manager and engineer of Dropsafe and Packsafe creating the 3D renderings and some animations to showcase the real world appliations of their products I had the chance to work with him on a new venture. This project was extremely challenging because I had to design and model the air purifier with a higher precision than what 3dstudio MAX polygonal mesh tools and the standard NURBS in 3dstudio MAX were too limited I had to use a special plug-in called Power NURBS for some objects and then convert the resulting surfaces into meshsmoothed subdivision polygonal surfaces and polish the smaller details where surfaces where the case perforations had little bumps or imperfections in pinched corners in some edges of the holes. besides this the other main challenge was to model absolutely all the internal components, 12 elements that unfortunately i can't publish because this part of the product is confidential. These elements went through several rounds of revisions where the structural shape had to be changed substantially and Power NURBS was very helpful for this with its non destructive workflow but once I had to switch to polgonal mesh modifiers sometimes the smallest change required to start over from NURBS again. This is a project that could have been done with Solidworks, Alias or inventor and then export to 3dstudio MAX for the photorealistic renderings stage but this is not a workflow free from compllications and a lot of cleanup and retopology required so at the end of the day I was very happy that I could craft a workflow inside 3dstudio MAX to work almost like in a high precision CAD software.
