THE CURRENCY OF FAIRNESS
An essay and an original song about money, power, and the invisible economies of human survival.
From Wall Street to a Berlin shelter, every place has its own currency. Some transactions happen in money. Others happen in cigarettes, favours, access, or the quiet expectation that someone owes you something.
Drawing on the economic thinking of Maffeo Pantaleoni and the informal exchanges of everyday life, this essay examines the price of fairness, the rules people invent when official systems fall short, and the uncomfortable truth that even generosity can become a transaction.
The idea then moves into music, extending the essay's exploration of value, obligation, and survival into another form.
Two forms, one question: what is fairness worth when everyone has something to gain and something to lose?
Writing · Creative concept · Editorial direction · Musical experimentation
