ONION MAGAZINE

Catarina Retroz

Onion Magazine is an independent publication that seeks to make the complex understandable—stripping away excess to reveal the essence of what truly matters. It reflects on the paradox of movement: how we can navigate the world freely, yet remain confined by invisible boundaries we call borders.

Issue 01: Freedom peels back these layers one by one, much like the onion itself—starting from the outer, visible borders of the world and gradually moving inward. Through this process, it explores how borders shape us from birth, both tangibly and psychologically, to uncover what true freedom means—from the self, outward to the world around us.

Structured as a 360° design spiral with multiple beginnings, the magazine mirrors its own concept of interconnectedness. Its two-sided format pairs conceptual essays with interviews to create a continuous dialogue between thought and experience.
