Have you ever wondered how time has flown and the things we use daily have been changing gradually? Well, we can say the thing that has been changed more frequently than any other thing would be the sources we gather and pass the information from. There was a time when we had to go to the library and find our desired book, whereas today every one of us has access to any kind of information at our fingertips! Today, we are going to talk about both the necessity and the dispensibility of books.
Well, the fact that you are reading this on a other thing than a book can be the greatest answer to this question. We all know how widely and fast technology has progressed throughout the last 2 decades. The form of learning has been changed as well. Learners from various fields prefer to use the Internet to consume knowledge. Not only students, but also teachers and professors tend to have a tablet/ laptop over a book, and why won't they? The use of internet for any aspect of study can be preferable because of it's accessibility as well as thefactor that saves the time! Also, it saves the energy to go physically to the library and wait till your desired book shows up.
While reading books has numerous benefits, some counterarguments suggest their role in today’s life may diminish, here’s why:
1. Accessibility and Convenience:
Digital formats such as e-books, and audiobooks offer way greater accessibility and convenience. The additional features like being easily carried in portable devices, downloading instantly and adjusting font size and lighting preferences make a huge difference.
2. Cost-effectiveness:
Digital books are often less expensive than traditional books, especially best-sellers and classic literature.
3. Shortened attention span:
the digital age has introduced distractions that compete with our attention. The constant notifications, pop-ups and hyperlinks found in digital content make it difficult to focus and engage deeply with a book.
4. Environmental Impact: the production of physical books has environmental implications, including deforestation and carbon emissions. Digital formats, while not entirely without environmental impact, comparatively have a lower carbon footprint.
Still, many people ( like me) continue to find joy and fulfilment in reading physical books, for many reasons…
Why?
Well, reading through a book is important to construct our brains to comprehend new things. Also, reading is highly recommended if you wish to develop your personality, the way of thinking. Reading books offers numerous psychological and cognitive benefits, such as stress relief, and improving mood by triggering the release of endorphins, the brain’s natural feel-good chemicals. Reading stimulates various regions of the brain, strengthening neural pathways and improving cognitive function. Reading regularly expands your vocabulary and improves the ability to understand complex ideas, also this habit challenges your mind to analyse information, evaluate arguments and help shape your own opinion. Books help us shape our perspective, as well as develop emotional intelligence. It allows us to explore new ideas, cultures, and perspectives, broadening our understanding of the world.
Books have played a crucial role in inspiring social movements and challenging injustice around the world. It has also had a profound personal impact on many individuals, providing comfort, escape and a sense of connection. Books also offer inspiration, motivation and a sense of purpose.
One more thing that makes a huge impact on the importance of the book is that no matter how many advantages or alternatives books are there The authenticity of any sort of thing remains the same, no matter what form it takes over time. That being said, there are no alternatives for the joy of smelling the new book, highlighting our favourite lines with our own hands, preserving something important in a book and most importantly, the joy of finishing the book!
