HULUM
Background:
Dreams are mental experiences comprising of succession of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations that occur involuntarily. They are caused by brainstem activation during rapid eye movement (REM), sleep and stimulation of limbic system (Emotional Motor System). It is a way your subconscious, is able to communicate with your conscious mind*1. For centuries it has been an attraction for many psychologists who managed to create their theories based out of their understanding of what dreams are and what purpose they fulfil.
According to science, dreams help in processing memories, healing, rehearsing fight or flight, identifying suppressed desires etc. Whereas, in religious context dreams are signs of warning or tidings from God. No matter which lens you use to view dreams, interpretation of dreams remains a key element.
Introduction:
Dream interpretation is the process of associating meaning to the symbols that form your dreams which means each person has dream imagery that they might not be familiar with. This visual association is a result of what we see and what we are influenced by in our daily life. Hence, we establish a fact that dreams can only be understood in reference to culture. Culture supplies the template for dream imagery, interpretation and expression.
