Scientific Research Paper on Tobacco Cessation Counselling

Midori R

This project aimed to investigate the extent to which undergraduate dental students engaged in tobacco cessation counseling and to identify the perceived barriers they encountered in providing such counseling. The study sought to assess the level of involvement, knowledge, and confidence of dental students in assisting patients with tobacco cessation.
Through the collection of data via surveys, this research aimed to gain insights into the practices and perspectives of undergraduate dental students regarding tobacco cessation counseling. The surveys were designed to assess the frequency and extent to which students incorporated tobacco cessation counseling into their clinical practice. The interviews aimed to delve deeper into their experiences, perceptions, and challenges related to providing counseling interventions.
The study focused on examining the knowledge and skills of dental students regarding the adverse health effects of tobacco use and the available cessation strategies. It aimed to determine whether they were familiar with evidence-based guidelines and techniques for counseling patients on tobacco cessation.
Additionally, the research aimed to identify the perceived barriers that hindered dental students from effectively engaging in tobacco cessation counseling. These barriers could include limited time, inadequate training or resources, personal beliefs, patient resistance, or other contextual factors. By understanding these barriers, the study aimed to provide valuable insights and recommendations to enhance the integration of tobacco cessation counseling into dental education programs.
Overall, this project aimed to shed light on the practices, knowledge, and challenges faced by undergraduate dental students in relation to tobacco cessation counseling. The findings of this study have the potential to contribute to the development of tailored interventions, curricula, and support systems to better equip dental students in providing effective tobacco cessation counseling to their patients.
