Overview

A strategic transformation for Graber's Animal Hospital, migrating from a restrictive, subscription-based veterinary platform to a high-performance, custom-built headless solution.

The Challenge

The client reached out to modernize their digital presence and specifically sought a migration to Webstudio to gain better visual control. Their existing platform created three critical bottlenecks:
A visual audit of the original website pages and the technical performance, accessibility, and best-practice metrics that defined the previous platform.
Cookie-Cutter Design & Brand Dilution: The previous website relied on a veterinary-specific subscription platform. This imposed "cookie-cutter" constraints, using shared layout patterns that made the clinic look nearly identical to local competitors. The lack of UI customization and component flexibility resulted in zero brand differentiation.
Infrastructure Dependency: The clinic was locked into recurring subscription fees for a platform they didn't own, with limited control over their own digital assets and data.
Substandard Mobile UX & Performance: The previous platform utilized an outdated "mobile-only" site structure via a separate URL prefix (e.g., mobile.domain.com). This fragmented the user experience and SEO equity, while resulting in lagging mobile performance.

The Strategy and Solution

To meet the client's goal of moving to Webstudio, I proposed a Headless Architecture. This decoupled the content from the presentation, providing total design freedom and permanent ownership of their infrastructure.
Iterative Design & UX Research : To break the "cookie-cutter" mold, I and UI designer conducted a deep dive into various veterinary websites to identify industry standards and UX gaps. Through several design iterations, I developed a bespoke UI that prioritized:
Service Hierarchy: Ensuring that primary care and emergency services are immediately accessible.
Information Architecture: Simplifying the user journey to reduce friction during high-stress moments.
Brand Differentiation: Moving away from template-driven aesthetics to a unique, professional visual identity.
Frontend: By rebuilding in Webstudio, I eliminated the need for a separate "mobile" URL. The new site is fully responsive on a single codebase, ensuring consistent branding and easier discovery for search engines. This allowed for a modernized UI that reflects the high level of care the clinic provides.
Content: I implemented Hygraph as the Headless CMS. Instead of hard-coded pages, I built custom models for Services, Team members, and an FAQ system. This modular approach allows the client to update content easily while providing structural SEO benefits.

The Outcome

The transition resulted in a technical "clean sweep," with massive improvements across all Core Web Vitals and a significant boost in mobile usability.
A full-page scroll of the new bespoke Homepage paired with a near-perfect set of Lighthouse metrics.
Key Deliverables:
Fully Responsive Website: Moved from a clunky URL-prefixed mobile site to a unified, modern architecture. This includes following pages; Services, Individual service, About Us, Contact Us.
Digital Independence: Eliminated the "template tax" and subscription dependency.
Scalable Architecture: A modular CMS that allows for infinite content growth without structural rebuilds.
Inclusive UX: Achieved a perfect 100/100 accessibility score, ensuring the site is usable for all clients during urgent situations.

Project Workflow

Discovery & Planning: Auditing the legacy platform and mapping the migration from the mobile-prefix site.
Design Direction: Researching industry benchmarks and developing the bespoke UI in Webstudio.
CMS Modeling: Architecting the Hygraph schema for services and FAQs.
Development: Building the responsive frontend and unifying the URL structure.
Migration & QA: Porting legacy content and rigorous cross-device testing.
Launch: Deployment via Cloudflare.
