I have created this piece in honor of my grandmother, Gloria Jean Watkins. Keeping
her memory in a futuristic world has unintentionally helped me in my grieving
process while in school. She was also a big fan of the dystopian sci-fi style. My
vision is meant to be used as a wake-up call to all of those in a certain state
of complacency. We often crave escape from our reality, rightfully so at times.
This piece is an integrated marketing campaign that uses the corruption of big
pharma and capitalism versus the opposing activism of the people wanting to
save what is left of their world. There is more on the Callisto/Akasi side
rather than the Tarvos side to portray the power struggle of the good guy often
being the underdog with less structural power. But this story is to show the
viewer that our reality is worth not giving up on. It’s worth the struggle to
make it something you don’t want to escape from. It is normal to want to get
away from time to time. Healthy, even. But don’t be gone for too long. We need
you here.
