 When Criminals Attack Cops

Hook:

Have you ever wondered about the shocking reality when those sworn to protect us become the ones under attack?
Today, we are delving into four such instances when cops were attacked by criminals.

1. Angry Teen Lunges at Cop to ‘Protect Her Sister’ During Arrest at Wisconsin Zoo

Video link: https://youtu.be/ve9Xkqfi21E?si=KGSgUdYh6JBktsOx
Our first encounter occurred at the Wisconsin Zoo after deputies were called for a reported fight. Zoo security pointed out four individuals sitting by the gate, waiting for a ride. (0:15- 0:24)
The zoo security accused four teens of a verbal altercation. Body cam footage of the police officer shows an interaction with the zoo security. (0:36- 1:08)  The situation became tense as the individuals seemed frustrated that they couldn’t enter the closed zoo to reach their pickup.  (1:36- 1:44)
None of the girls seemed to communicate properly with the cop, who was just doing his duty by helping them find the car. (3:36-3:43) During this, one girl, a 17-year-old girl named Envy Hampton,  threatened the police officer that she would hop up the fence if he didn't compromise on letting them out (3:55- 4:02) None of the girls seemed to be cooperating. (4:47- 4:54)
Eventually, her sister, later identified as Nia Dael Willis, arrived in her car to pick them up.(5:02-5:11) The deputy asked for identification due to a reported verbal altercation, but Nia declined to provide it and gave a fake name initially. (6:00- 6: 25)
Despite Nia’s reluctance, the deputy continued to press for information.(5:33-5:43) Eventually, the deputy allowed them to leave. (6:35- 6:41) Another deputy arrived at the scene, where Envy’s sister, Nia, and other passengers were in a car. Nia was frustrated by ‌more cars at the scene. (8:13-8:26) Now here’s when this tense situation got way worse. (8:29-8:46)
The video gets switched to the other deputy’s body cam, where it can be seen that other officers were trying to get the driver out of the car. (11:34- 11:54) The deputy was persuading one of the girls for details of the whole situation. (11:50-11:59) But when the cops removed the driver from the car, the already heated argument escalated when Envy got out of the car and started swinging punches at the deputy. (11:19-11:25)  This led to a physical altercation where the deputy struck Envy after being hit. The police took both Envy and her sister, Nia, into custody afterward. (11:27-11:38)
Envy faces serious charges including felony battery on a law enforcement officer, while Nia faces misdemeanors for resisting and disorderly conduct. The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office didn't comment further, as they're reviewing the incident internally for the use of force. The District Attorney's office is also reviewing the incident for charges. (13:04- 13:06)
Envy only attempted to hit an officer, but what happens when a suspect tries to bite one?

2. Woman Tastes Capsicum Fury After Neck-Bite Attempt On Officer!

By the end of this next encounter, Charles was charged with over-speeding and operating a vehicle while impaired with a suspended license in a car that was not his own. (24:19- 24:26) However, Natasha faced serious charges of felony assault, obstruction of official business, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. (24:36- 24:41)
This chaos took place on May 14th, during a traffic stop involving a man and a woman in a car with multiple police officers. The body cam footage shows an officer pulled over a driver for over-speeding, but he soon fled on foot.  (0:40-0:56) When the officers caught the driver and put him in handcuffs, they observed him continuously complaining about his arrest. (0:57- 1:20)
He expresses his frustration, claiming that he has warrants, and is furious throughout. (1:24-1:35) The focus shifts from here to a woman named Natasha, who hugs Charles and makes him calm down for a while. (2:38-2:44)
After the male suspect is arrested and placed inside a patrol car (4:44-4:50), the female passenger asks some questions about the arresting police officers. (5:14- 5:20) Officers handed over his belongings to Natasha, who was trying to help him by calling his sister. (5:37-5:48)
The woman was seen walking back toward the officer's car, saying that she needed to have Charles's number. (7:04- 7:15) While making the woman sit in the car, Natasha kept yelling for her purse, for her number. And that's where things went to shit. (8:35- 8:48) While an officer was asking her to sit in the car, she bit his neck and as self-defense, the officer pepper sprayed her face. (8:52-9:01)
She continued complaining about the pepper in her eyes, yelling and shouting and Charles accused the police officers of harassing Natasha saying that she was alone against those six. (14:45-14:55) The paramedics arrived at the scene to help Natasha, but she refused to take any help. (17:09- 17:18).
Natasha was taken to the hospital for medical clearance by some other officers, but she kept yelling and complaining even after arriving at the police station. (21:34- 21:42)
Natasha attacked the officer while still being aware of what was happening around her, but what happens if the suspect’s hallucinations cause him to attack an officer?

3. Hallucinating Suspect Attacks Cop with Knife Before Deadly Shooting

The third incident took place on April 28th, when 911 received a call from a man acting erratically, saying that he was on a next-door mission. (0:35-0:37) Assuming that he was hurting himself and needed paramedics to help him out. (0:38- 0:59)
Later that night, a call was placed from the same location. The caller claimed to be Michael Owens, the suspect, and he said that he was staying at Ventura County Rescue Mission.(1:00-1:10) The call not only raised eyebrows but also the need for paramedics and ambulances to be dispatched. (1:11- 1:24)
Michael Owens, a 25-year-old male, is suspected to be hallucinating and hurting himself. The body cam footage showed the officer's conversation with the police. (2:24-2:33) Responders also explained that he had locked himself in a single bathroom. Probably the most disturbing part was Owen had been cutting his left wrist with a knife. (2:36- 2:44)
He then exited the bathroom and talked to the police officer like nothing was wrong. The police officer then tried to approach Owen. (2:53- 3:01)  Police officers made their way up the stairs and while they approached him, Owen again locked himself in the bathroom. (3:23- 3:32)
Michael Owens finally came out of the bathroom when the police officer called him. Still, in his delirious state, he went into the bathroom again and soon came out holding a knife. (3:53- 4:04)
The officer warned him twice to surrender unarmed, but he kept on approaching with a knife in his hand. (4:09-4:16)  The officer kept his firearm in his hand, sensing the delicacy of the situation, and soon Owen lunged at the police officer, demanding him to give up his gun. (4:28- 4:31) This encounter led to multiple shots at Owen. Despite this, he kept on fighting, which only led to more shots. (4:31-4:35) Though he was given first aid by the paramedics at the scene, they pronounced him dead a short while after being taken to the hospital. (4:35- 4:41)
Investigators then looked into what happened that night to better understand the situation. (4:43-4:48) It was a really sad ending to what started as a call for help.
This was just about a hallucinating man, not in his senses, but what will happen when criminals drag cops along with their stolen property?

4. Man arrested after dragging cop in stolen car

The fourth incident took place in Cleveland, Ohio. The police officer suspected a car with three men sleeping inside it. She runs the plate of the car, which turns out to be stolen. (0:32- 0:38)
After she confirmed twice on her radio about the stolen vehicle,  knowing that an unknown person and no such history afterward stole this vehicle. (1:13-1:20) She flashed the light at the car, but there was no sign of movement. (1:24- 1:38)
When the backup arrived at the scene, she explained the situation to a fellow officer and walked toward the location of the car. (1:38-1:50) She knocked on the front door of the car. In an instant, the person sitting in front and the driver opened the door. (1:50- 1:59)
The driver and the person sitting beside him showed their hands without any argument. One of the men also got out of the passenger seat. (2:03- 2:22) Things were simple till this moment but the man in the driver's seat started giving the officer a tough time  (2:23-2:25) The Officer got ahold of the man in the back and front but in the meantime, the man in the driver-seat rushed his hand towards the key. (2:29- 3:04)
Cops again tried to stop him from doing that, but then the situation got worse when he wasn't listening to the cop. (3:04-3:10)  The body cam of another cop showed the brutal dragging of the cop along with the car. (3:12-3:22)
The video shows us that he didn't stop the car and ended up hitting another car because he wasn't in his senses. (3:24-3:33) The man in the driver’s seat still tried to run after the hit but was caught by police and put under cuffs. (3:38-3:51)
The situation started with a stolen car and three men ended up hurting a police officer while destroying someone’s property.
Police encounters with people acting out can turn out to be really dangerous. Sometimes, it's hard to tell who's at fault. These situations are tough for everyone involved, especially the cops, just trying to keep things safe out there. Remember, behind those uniforms are people dealing with tough situations, too.
