THE RETURN — A Solo-Directed AI Film (André Santoro)
A woman brings a dusty old suitcase into a small repair shop to fix one wheel. The repairman who takes it in recognises something the audience doesn't yet — the wheels were fitted by his own hand, forty-seven years ago, when he was an apprentice at the same counter.
55 seconds. No dialogue. Every shot carries the reveal through hands, objects, and light.
THE BRIEF (self-directed) This work — André Santoro is a heritage-luggage brand built for the reel, tagline "Every repair is signed." The goal was to prove a full cinematic ad — story, cast, locations, props, sound design logic — could be carried end-to-end by one person using an AI production pipeline, at a standard that reads as shot on location rather than generated.
ROLE Sole creative director. Story, shot design, character and prop development, generation direction, and post.
PROCESS Every character, location, and prop was built and locked as a separate reference asset before a single shot was generated — a woman, a repairman, two states of one suitcase (dusty arrival, cleaned repair), a hand-stamped punch, two repair tags, and the shop itself — so every shot stayed consistent across the whole film. Camera and lighting were set per shot through a director's panel (genre, palette, lighting, camera movement, lens, focal length, aperture), separate from the prompt describing the action, so neither fought the other. All on-screen text — serial numbers, tag dates, the maker's stamp — was composited in post rather than generated, which is the only reliable way to keep lettering legible across a shot.

WHY THIS PROJECT It's the clearest demonstration I have of what a one-person AI film studio can deliver at agency quality — full story development, locked continuity across twelve shots, practical problem-solving when a generation didn't hold, and a finished film with a real emotional turn. If you're evaluating whether a solo AI creative director can carry a brand film without a crew, this is the reel to watch.
Available for spec work, brand films, and campaign concepts.
