🕒 The Challenge Context: Journai was launching Sam, an AI mentor designed specifically for student athletes, and needed to demonstrate how its approach differs from general-purpose AI tools. Goal: Create a motion piece that compares real AI interactions side-by-side, highlighting how Sam prioritizes emotional context, reflection, and mentorship rather than overwhelming users with information. Audience: Student athletes, coaches, sports organizations, and parents exploring AI-supported mental performance and communication tools. Constraints: Present multiple AI conversations in a visually engaging way while keeping the narrative clear, emotionally resonant, and easy to follow within a short runtime.
✨ My Solution Concept & Storytelling – Designed a comparison-driven narrative showing three AI experiences responding to the same athlete scenario, allowing viewers to immediately feel the difference in tone, pacing, and usefulness. Motion Design – Created a structured phone-based layout with progressive zooms, scroll animations, and pacing contrasts where heavy scrolling represented cognitive overload and stillness represented clarity and empathy. Behavioral Visualization – Translated abstract qualities like mentorship, emotional intelligence, and active listening into visual language by contrasting long text walls with short conversational exchanges that unfold naturally. Brand Alignment – Maintained a clean, minimal aesthetic that reinforced trust and credibility while positioning Sam as calm, human-centered, and purpose-built for athletes.
🚀 The Outcome Clear Differentiation: The motion clearly communicates how Sam’s conversational approach differs from traditional AI responses without needing technical explanations. Emotional Engagement: The athlete’s key line, “I want to know what it’s going to take to be valued,” creates a strong emotional anchor that makes the product memorable. Product Positioning: The visuals establish Sam as a mentor-like experience rather than just another chatbot, strengthening brand identity. Scalable Asset: The piece can be used across launch campaigns, social media, presentations, and investor communications.
🎯 Impact This project demonstrates how motion design can translate nuanced human experiences into compelling product storytelling. By visualizing the difference between information overload and meaningful guidance, the work highlights a future where AI doesn’t just provide answers, it understands people.
