Under the Maypole of a Bowerbird

After discovering a gap when researching environmental art projects and arts. With having extra free time during COVID-19 lockdown restrictions I seized the opportunity to create my own digital archive. Using social media and a website builder I developed an explorable digital space. My objective was to research and gather influential contemporary and emerging artists whose work addresses themes such as climate change, ecology, and the human-nature relationship. Through extensive online research, I identified and collected these artists, expanding the reach of their work by sharing it with a broader audience through digital platforms.
This project deepened my skills in research and content analysis, as I carefully examined a variety of sources to find artists whose work aligned with an environmental focus or activism. I also explored emerging trends in digital curation and virtual art spaces. By designing and managing the virtual gallery, I gained experience in curation, digital research, social media strategy, communications, and project management.
I'm a supporter of utilizing social media platforms not only as communication tools but as powerful research tools and sharing reliable information. I believe the future needs to have positive digital spaces that inspire change, as the world continues to change into an almost all-digital society. This project was good practice for harnessing my passion for art and the environment and making it into something productive, to educate others about the importance of preserving our natural world through research and communications.
