Kahkow: Special Old Dark | Packaging

Kahkow needed custom packaging to match the premium nature of their limited edition "Special Old Dark" chocolate bar. The bar was made using a distinctive process: cacao beans were aged in wooden barrels that once held rum, deepening the flavor and elevating its quality. Launched in July to coincide with Dominican Father’s Day, the release targeted customers looking for a refined and original gift.

The post-harvest process used for the beans was not only curious and unusual but very relevant to the overall quality of the bar; providing peculiar flavor notes such as oak and dried fruits. I decided to represent the barrel directly by depicting its wooden surface and metal hoops through texture and silver stamping techniques for a sophisticated touch. The packaging contained an insert expanding on the production details and ingredients.
