Since visiting the wonderful city of Granada in the summer of 2025, I’ve been fascinated with the city’s Moorish fortress and its surroundings - the Alhambra.
The building is incredibly complex and intricate, a thing of beauty - but its official website? Not so much. It does its job, sure - but the dozens of tour options could be highlighted better. Especially the magical night tour, which I decided to entirely reimagine.
Style
What can show more than a picture? 3D!
I didn’t want to go for realism beyond the building’s most recognisable elements - the goal was to set an atmosphere, a feel, that didn’t require photorealistic detail.
Low poly was the best style for the job, allowing me to first portray the essence of the main courtyard and then paint on top of it with moody lights and animation.
The courtyard's reflecting water pool was the perfect opportunity to suggest a magical gateway, inviting potential visitors into its mystery.
