VR NeuroImaging

Immersive VR Platform for Neuroimaging Exploration

Description

We developed a real-time VR solution for exploring 3D MRI data using photorealistic volumetric rendering, designed to run on accessible hardware like the Meta Quest 3.
The system allows users—researchers, students, or clinicians—to interact with MRI scans in an intuitive and responsive virtual environment. Users can scale, rotate, and adjust rendering parameters (like opacity and brightness) directly with their hands via VR controllers. This enables more natural and effective examination of complex internal brain structures.

Key Highlights

Built in Unity for real-time GPU-accelerated rendering
Uses Meta Quest 3 for low-cost, high-quality interaction
Paired with a Qt desktop uploader for loading MRI data
Supports interactive transfer functions, scaling, and orientation
Designed for broader access beyond high-end research labs
This project was part of the EPSCoR DART initiative, aiming to democratize neuroimaging tools through immersive, intuitive design. See credits: https://eac.ualr.edu/projects/epscor-dart-wp/epscor-dart-neuroimaging/
