Animated videos about interest rates
Mortgage loans company UCI has a segment called "UCI explains" to make topics like interest rates easier to understand. So they commissioned an animated video to do just that.
Defining a style
As the brand's guidelines had no section about illustration, I had to define the illustration style that would better suit the brand. So my first style proposal was based on the brand's icon design. I really liked how it's mostly line, but then has a filled detail. It felt like the way to go because it would have such a strong connection to the brand.
The left version was my first proposal. It was actually based on one of the existing icons in the brand's library but with a few added details and shadows.
It wasn't approved because the client wanted the house to be more literal in the representation of an average building in Lisbon and also didn't feel the line style was the right way to go. He had a flat vector illustration kind of style in mind.
So after a few feedback rounds, we ended up with the final version on the right.
Character
These were some of the character styles I played around with.
This style was my character proposal, as she was cartoonish enough to look friendly and yet simple enough to blend in with the brand's image.
The client felt the previous style was a bit too "children's book character". He was looking for something that felt more modern to him and referenced a few videos with a "Corporate Memphis" aesthetic. So I created a new character that was less detailed, a bit less organic and little more geometrical with a vector-y vibe.
