Important is an intensely personal project, created as part of my Bachelor thesis: Motionflow — Animating Different Stories in Different Styles.
This short film is the result of months of dedication and experimentation, combining 912 hand-animated frames across 24 unique styles. Using 17 different materials—including acrylic paint, crayons, and even mandarins—I pushed the boundaries of animation. Approximately 85% of the film was created using analog techniques, blended with digital tools for a distinctive look and feel.
Animation Styles:
The film employs 6 diverse animation styles, including stop motion, cell animation, and generative animation, to create a dynamic and emotionally charged visual experience.
Directed and Animated by: Arda Kiliç
Music:Play Play Play · Shtriker Big Band
Tools and Materials Used: A mix of traditional utensils like paper, linocut, and clay, alongside modern tools like scanners and After Effects.
Important dives into the chaos of modern life, following a young man navigating overwhelming pressures. Without dialogue, the story speaks through movement, textures, and rhythm, letting the visuals express emotions that words cannot.
I hope this film resonates with you, just as much as it has been a journey of discovery for me. Thank you for watching and supporting independent animation!
