My submission for the FLORA x The Met challenge reimagines The Met's iconic German natural trumpet.
When I looked at The Met archive and contemplated this 17th-century German natural trumpet, I was struck by how human history is filled with instruments designed specifically for war and destruction. I asked myself: Why must this instrument be a voice for conflict? Why couldn't its purpose be inverted entirely to become an instrument of eternal peace?
From this thought, the idea was born: What if this instrument had existed back then, capable of declaring eternal peace and nipping wars in the bud? Naturally, as with the eternal struggle of human history, there were always dark, malicious forces trying by all means to crush and silence this unique artifact—this 'weapon of peace' whose sound threatened their interests in fueling division. Yet, despite their attempts to destroy it, its legacy and eternal engraved symbols remained as a silent testament to how much better and more peaceful the world could have been had we chosen the voice of reason.
This artwork depicts the trumpet resting gently against an ancient, weathered stone wall surrounded by jasmine and olive leaves, as if it were an eternal relic waiting for humanity to truly deserve its authentic soun
