Then again, this wouldn’t be the anime-verse if it didn’t, so let’s skip the formalities and dive right into everything that’s coming soon from the exciting adaptation of Haro Aso’s zombie manga — not referring to Alice in Borderland — to the glorious second season of Jujutsu Kaisen. Without further ado, here’s the new anime of summer 2023 you should be adding to your watchlist.

Coming in summer 2023 is Horimiya: The Missing Pieces, a new anime about the popular slice-of-life series. Most of you might be confused about this new Horimiya anime, but let’s clear up that confusion. This isn’t the highly anticipated Horimiya: Season 2, rather it’s a tie-in anime which includes those parts of the manga that weren’t present in the original, hence the name.

The first season was bashed for skipping over a lot of wholesome and important story moments from the manga, but CloverWorks has finally heard our cries. So prepare to relive Kyouko and Izumi’s journey from perspectives you’ve never seen before.

Masamune might not have been able to exact his ultimate revenge on Aki last time, however now it’ll be different as he has got a new set of schemes. Masamune-kun’s Revenge: Season 2 will take the ensemble cast of characters to Paris on a trip, and there Masamune will try his utter best to wrap Aki around his fingers, but the question is, will he be able to do so successfully?

If you want to know where the story heads, well then, Crunchyroll will be the only place where you can find out since it has exclusivity over the second season. 2021’s underdog isekai anime is set to make a return in the summer 2023 anime roster too. Mushoku Tensei: Season 1 was a rollercoaster ride from beginning to end, it practically washed away all the negativity recent times brought due to the saturation of the genre, but that’s to be expected when you’ve got such an enthralling fantasyland that keeps getting bigger and richer with every passing episode.

Last time we saw Rudeus, Eris, and Ruijerd had left him to pursue their own separate goals. Abandoned, Rudeus will get back on track to find his mother who has been missing since the Teleport Incident. However, Rudeus is way weaker without a party than he’d like to admit, and all his hopes soon start tumbling down. Mushoku Tensei: Season 2 will leave you awestruck with the upcoming arcs, dozens of new characters are introduced and the plot will thicken tenfold. Whatever happens, just sit tight and don’t make the mistake of sleeping on the release.

Well, this wasn’t a hard one to figure out, of course, Jujutsu Kaisen: Season 2 would be among the most anticipated new anime of summer 2023. The world of Curses is finally returning, and it’s going to be bigger, badder, flashier, and more mind-blowing than you can fathom. It’s hard to imagine anything topping the first season, but to speak plainly, manga readers call what we saw in Season 1 nothing more than the intro.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Season 2 is where things actually get good. Gojo’s Past Arc will span the first couple of episodes. It’ll give a deeper insight into how Gojo became the world’s strongest Sorcerer, and how his past is connected to the events taking place in the present day regarding Itadori and Sukuna. Geto’s character development is a major beat too, and in the latter half of the season, the Shibuya Incident Arc will commence. The Shibuya Arc is when Geto sets his sinister grand plan into motion, and that results in Japan becoming ground zero for the war between the Curses and Sorcerers. Jujutsu Kaisen: Season 2 will undoubtedly go down in history as one of the greatest anime series ever made, and if you had to pick a single anime to binge during summer 2023, there’s no better alternative.

Next up, get ready for a blast from the past as the 90s classic action-adventure anime Rurouni Kenshin is getting a remake. The animation might be new, but the series will remain true to its root and to everything that made it a masterpiece in the first place.

Witness Kenshin Himura as he helps a Kamiya Kaoru in tracking down a serial killer on a rampage pretending to be the legendary feared warrior Hitokiri Battōsai, who actually is Kenshin himself. The story is filled with a dark tone but has just the right amount of romantic moments to lighten the mood. The remake is being made by Liden Films (Misfit of Demon King Academy), so be sure to stick around and see how cool Kenshin’s katana skills are for yourself.

It’s that time of the year again when you trick and deceive your classmates into believing you’re someone you’re not, reads the synopsis of Liar Liar. On Academy Island, everything is determined by Games, events in which students participate and the winner gets it all.

Hiroto is a transfer student who happens to beat Academy Island’s strongest student on his first day. Resultantly, he becomes acknowledged by all as the new Seven Stars. Sounds pretty epic right? Well, it isn’t because now Hiroto will have to defend himself from challengers of all sorts. Thus begins a series of Games that Hiroto needs to win, but the only tools at his disposal are his skills of subterfuge.

The world hasn’t been the same ever since Bleach made its unexpected comeback in 2022. The Thousand Year Blood War saga of Bleach was the perfect note for the series to return on after nearly a decade of hiatus, and oh boy did Studio Pierrot deliver with the animation and execution. 13 amazing Bleach episodes after eight years are definitely something to be thankful for, but there’s just no way that would fill the fandom’s starvation.

Luckily, Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War: Part 2 is scheduled to air in summer 2023, so rest easy as the epic clash between the Sternritters and the Soul Society is headed in your direction. A teaser for the second part is already out, which you should check out if you can’t control your excitement. It’s not much, but it acts as a fitting prelude to the final battle coming up ahead.

Mangaka Haro Aso’s Alice in Borderland is among the best K-dramas ever created. Its story may have come to a close, but another one will enter the limelight, Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead. Yes, it’s another zombie show, but it’s not akin to Alice in Borderland or any other zombie show in the slightest. Zom 100 is an uncanny action-comedy story about Akira Tendou, an introverted office worker who’s fed up with his life and would do anything to feel truly alive for once — even wishing for the end of the world if that was the answer.

Ironically, Akira witnesses his landlord feasting on his neighbor, and the next thing he knows, a zombie apocalypse has taken over the world as he knows it. You’d think he’d be scared, and at first, he is, but then Akira starts thinking of the apocalypse as the opportunity he so desperately needed to enjoy his days. With that in mind, Akira sits down and makes a bucket list of 100 things he must do before he kicks the bucket himself. That includes things as simple as getting a good night’s rest to harder feats such as confessing his feelings to his co-worker. Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead is a blissfully energetic take on a rather brutal genre, the world may be in chaos, but Akira’s funny personality and penchant to do the unthinkable often make this a sweet ride through and through.

Summer 2023 is full of surprises, who could’ve guessed that Bungou Stray Dogs: Season 5 would be coming only months after the fourth season ended? But let’s be honest, Season 4 left us on a major cliffhanger. The Decay of the Angel is still enacting its plan of global domination, while Atsushi, Dazai, and the rest of the Armed Detective Agency are on the run.

The stakes have never been higher, but thanks to Dazai’s wits, the heroes have a fighting chance. Bungou Stray Dogs: Season 5 will be the best one yet, there’s so much in store, you’ll be stunned. Spoilers aren’t how we Bungou fans roll, so here’s just a hint: Vampires, lots of them.

Kazuya’s quest for finding the love of his life continues in July 2023. In Rent-A-Girlfriend: Season 3, Kazuya teams up with Chizuru to make a film and kick off her acting career as that’s what her grandmother wanted. Later, Kazuya’s childish neighbor Mini Yaemori is introduced, and that considerably changes everyone’s day-to-day lives.

Granted, Rent-A-Girlfriend isn’t that terrific at times and does tend to overdo the comedy, but this rom-com has still managed to amass a giant fanbase. The next part of the story may not be for you if you want something similar to Spring’s Hell’s Paradise, but for long-time admirers, it’ll be a swell experience.
