Between Roots: A Fashion Story
Between Roots is a study in inheritance. Two generations of women, one Mediterranean landscape, and the quiet objects that carry memory between them: linen worn soft, a terracotta jug shaped by hand, fig trees heavy in late summer light. Nothing here is staged to announce itself. The story unfolds through proximity, through the way two bodies share space without needing to touch, through the objects that outlive the moment they were made for.
The work leans into stillness rather than spectacle. Warm neutrals, natural fabric, skin and stone in conversation with each other, nothing decorative for its own sake, nothing that pulls focus from the relationship at the center of the frame. Even the light is treated like inheritance, the same late afternoon gold falling on both women, as if it too has been passed down rather than simply captured.
It asks what gets passed down without ever being spoken. A way of standing, a way of holding fabric, a resemblance that has nothing to do with features and everything to do with posture and patience. And it asks what it looks like to stand in a place your family has stood in before, not as nostalgia, but as continuity. The landscape doesn't change to fit the story. The story is shaped by having always belonged to that landscape.
There is also something quietly generational in the clothing itself, the way certain garments seem to belong to no single decade, worn linen and simple silhouettes that could as easily be found in an old photograph as in a current collection. That timelessness is part of the point. Inheritance is rarely loud. It sits in small, repeated choices: the way a scarf is tied, the way a woman leans against a doorway, the way fabric is chosen for how it feels rather than how it photographs.
Created entirely with AI imagery, this piece is part of an ongoing exploration into how generative tools can hold the same emotional weight as photography. Not by imitating a photograph, but by carrying the same intention. When the direction is personal enough, the tool becomes secondary to what it is being asked to say.
