Purdue Research Video Series Production

Eric Smoldt

Objective: During the early months of the pandemic in 2020, I led the development of a suite of six short videos that showcased Purdue’s cutting-edge research and innovation. These were designed to communicate complex topics in a concise, visually engaging way, helping to maintain outreach and visibility during a time of limited in-person interaction.
Context: With campus activities restricted and most communication shifting online, the need arose for high-quality digital storytelling tools. The videos were aimed at external partners, prospective students, and internal stakeholders to maintain momentum and highlight key initiatives despite the challenges of remote engagement.
Process: Working entirely within lockdown conditions, I coordinated remotely with researchers, staff, and leadership to gather visuals, data, and messaging. I crafted motion graphics, selected footage, edited voiceovers, and composed sequences that aligned with each project’s core theme. Every edit balanced clarity with creativity, ensuring technical accuracy while keeping the narrative accessible and compelling. The result: six distinct, professional-grade videos produced under challenging circumstances—each helping to elevate Purdue’s voice when in-person communications were paused.
