“The Rain – A Visual Study in Mood and Motion”
A short 3D animation created in Blender 4.3 and finalized in DaVinci Resolve. This piece explores the mood and movement of rain through a simple environment. Built from scratch(except for the trees) to experiment with atmosphere, subtle storytelling, and camera motion.
My Thought Process & Creative Journey
It All Started with Rain…
I came across a rain effect on Instagram — just rain falling. It was simple, but it gave me an idea. I wanted to do more than just make it rain. So, I started building a ground surface that would actually react to the raindrops, like how water ripples in real life. I didn’t follow any tutorial for it — just tested things out until it worked. It might not be a new concept, but doing it by myself felt like a small milestone.
My First Environment
Since I want to tell stories visually, I thought: “Why not turn this into a scene?” I didn’t want to overcomplicate it, so I kept it simple — downloaded some trees using BlenderKit and built a small, focused space. But it felt flat, so I added subtle camera movement with a dolly zoom to bring in a bit of cinematic feel. That little touch helped the whole scene feel more alive.
Adding Mood with Fog
To bring in atmosphere, I wanted to add fog. I started on my own and got a decent base, but it wasn’t quite there — so I looked at a few YouTube references just to understand how others approached it. They didn’t give me the exact answer, but they pointed me in the right direction. After some more trial and error, I built a static fog setup that worked well for the scene.
I had more ideas in mind — wind, better lighting, more realism — but I didn’t want to stretch it too far or get stuck chasing perfection.
I reminded myself: “This is a first step, not a final destination.”
I learned a lot just making this, and I’m excited to keep building from here.

“I’m currently working on a seamless loop version of this animation. The idea is to turn this atmospheric scene into a calm, endlessly looping motion that could be used for ambient backdrops or motion design reels. More coming soon!”

This is one of the early environment piece I created! The idea was simple, to create a scene with the forest and a rain!!!
