Client: CIRCA Fragrances 🕯
CIRCA Fragrances is an Australian brand offering locally made, hand poured and cruelty free scented candles, fragrance diffusers and hand care products.
Brief ✍🏽
To educate retailers and sales people about a new CIRCA home fragrance product line in a way that is enticing and will secure attendance, while also getting key product knowledge across.
The video features a fun cooking demonstration hosted by Angie, Education and Training Manager at CIRCA, and chef James Reeson. James shares a couple of recipes he has created using key ingredients contained in the fragrances. Angie co-hosts and assists with the cooking, while adding product training information along the way.
With over 180GB of files in total, I needed to condense ~90 min of footage, shot across 3 cameras, into a 30 min video.
Process 👨🏽💻
Syncing all camera footage and audio, and then creating proxy files to speed up the editing process.
Creating a first assembly: arranging footage into the correct order -> welcome/intro section, French lamb cutlet dish, cedar plank salmon dish, and an outro section. Making large and obvious cuts only.
Rough cut: creating a rough edit, condensing sections, making minor cuts. Using my best judgement to switch between cameras, and also doing so when absolutely necessary. Sharing with client for initial feedback.
Fine cut: implementing client feedback, ensuring cuts and camera switches are seamless, adding graphics and titles, transitions and background music. Sharing with client.
Final cut: approval from client. Editing and enhancing audio, color correction & grading. Delivering final video + thumbnail to client.
Challenges ⛰
Turnaround time: client had a hard deadline, so once the first assembly was done, I had just 3 days to get to a final cut.
A cam had no recorded camera audio. This meant I could not automatically sync its audio to the microphone audio. I had to use visual cues (e.g hands clapping) to align the footage and recorded mic audio.
Results & Reflection 🙌🏽
Final video delivered before deadline. Client was very happy! They felt the quality was elevated and much better than previous videos, and were really appreciative of my efforts.
While there was pressure to meet the deadline, I enjoyed working on this project and working with food content for the first time.
This was one of the biggest projects I've taken on, and am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with a well-known Australian brand.
This project demonstrates my ability to work on projects with tight deadlines, and doing so without compromising on quality of the end product.
