This client's QuickBooks had been destroyed through high turnover and lack of communication among their bookkeepers. A bookkeeper would quit and be replaced and the new bookkeeper would have no idea where to start. They would try to correct mistakes, but without a previous paper trail, this would actually lead to more problems. Inevitably, that bookkeeper would also resign. This company would not be informed of issues from their bookkeepers, so when they decided to take a peak, they were horrified. Their records had so many errors their basic financials could not be trusted. When I was hired, this client was so distressed and continuously apologized for the state of their records, despite the mess being in no way their fault. I patiently reviewed their records and asked as many questions as I could before making any uneducated corrections. I found the root problems and corrected them, all while I kept in constant communication with them. I also left myself and anyone looking at the records a paper trail of my corrections, so there would be no confusion over what I had done. This was a massive cleanup, but it was so worth it when my client was able to use their financial records again. Unlike before, they can now make informed business decisions and feel confident in their numbers. My client was so appreciative of my services, they didn't want anyone else performing monthly bookkeeping and they are still a client today.
