SNF DIALOGUES - Biblioburro: the donkey library of Colombia

The SNF Dialogues travels to Colombia to meet Luis Soriano, the pioneer of an alternative kind of mobile library. When a schoolteacher in rural Colombia realized his students had never held a book in their hands, he decided to bring books to them. Twenty-six years later, his mobile donkey library – the now-famous ‘Biblioburro’ - is still going strong.
This story was produced as part of the SNF Dialogues podcast series “Beyond Books: The Many Lives of Libraries” created by Ares Kalandides.
Featuring: Luis Soriano, Hayder Gonzalez, Luis Aragón
Illustration & Animation: Alexia Barakou
Sound recordist: Andrés Roldán
Sound editing, design, translation & subtitling: Philippos Vardakas
Field production: Abraham Palacio
Production: Phoebe Fronista, Giolanta Ntamadaki, Celia Tsigka
I created the visual storytelling and animated sequences for the project, bringing the story of Luis Soriano’s mobile donkey library to life. Illustrations were created in Photoshop and Illustrator, and animation was done in After Effects to produce engaging, dynamic visuals.
