Clay99 T

I’ve teamed up with the good folks over at Clay 99 to bring you this fine new T!
We aim to raise more awareness of Ocean pollution so 5% of all profits will be donated to the Marine Conservation Society. This is my first design in what will hopefully form part of a bigger collab between us, because they are great to work with, and I’ve finally done some good with my work (Instead of all the evil)
I wanted the first T-shirt to not just be a single one time donation - but to also be a longer way of spreading the message and inviting more donations and discussion about Ocean health. So, the QR code at the top directs curious people back to the resources that Clay 99 share as a brand. I wanted the T to reflect the fight between the natural inhabitants of the seas and all the toxic junk and oil that governments and businesses have carelessly released into it.
The design is full of elements to draw people in to try and figure out what's it’s all about. It was inspired by flash tattoo sailor art, and the rubbery clean retro style of black and white MCBess illustrations. It's hard not to feel angry and a bit heartbroken about the lack of care that’s changing the world in devastating ways.
The damage is being done mainly by industrial and financial motivations, often with no care about the impact it will have on people in the future. It's encouraging how many other people feel the same about it and want to change things for the better. I know there are many facets to these problems but in simple terms, you have to look after the home you live in, part of making art is about making that home a better place to be - and also challenging shitty ideas and ideals wrecking the beautiful place.
If you would like to head over there to support them, you can look good and do good.
