Splice — Songwriting Cook Up ft. Salem Ilese Post-Production Editorial
Salem Ilese is the kind of songwriter who makes you wonder how she got there. The Bay Area indie-pop artist behind viral hits "Mad at Disney" and "PS5" has a writing style that's equal parts sharp, playful, and completely her own. Her pen has also landed cuts for Bella Poarch, Demi Lovato, and Illit, which tells you everything about her range.
Splice brought her in for a fly-on-the-wall cook up, and the footage was a gift. Watching Salem work is genuinely entertaining. She mumbles melodies until they become lyrics, finds something magical in simple chords and samples, and at one point pulls out a ukulele like it's the most natural thing in the world. The energy in the session was loose, creative, and completely unforced.
Editing creator-driven content at this level means knowing when to hold on a moment and when to move. Salem's process has a natural spontaneity to it, and preserving that on screen was the priority. Too tight an edit and you lose the charm. Too loose and you lose the viewer. The cut needed to breathe with her creative flow rather than work against it.
The integration of Splice inside Ableton gave the session a seamless quality that translated well on screen, with Salem moving fluidly between her own ideas and the sample library without ever breaking her creative momentum. That fluidity became part of the story the edit told.
For brands investing in premium music content featuring established artists, this is the kind of editorial work that turns a product demo into something people actually want to watch.
