With a plan to create a microlending app that will enable borrowers to access small loans quickly and easily, my client came to me with his app design requirements written in a doc file. He was seeking additional investors for his Series-A funding round and required a clickable app prototype that would show various loan borrowing, repayment, and even financial advice flows. He also wanted someone who could design a logo for the app, which is why he chose to work with me as I have experience with both logo and UX design.
The project's essence lies in its commitment to affordability, accessibility, sleek design, flexibility, and transparency, aiming to streamline the loan application process while ensuring security and reliability for both borrowers and lenders.
My core responsibilities included; understanding user needs through research, creating wireframes and prototypes, designing the user interface, testing the design with real users, and iterating based on feedback to ensure the final product is both functional and visually appealing.
I started by doing user research whereby I did local surveys, and came up with an empathy map that enlightened me with the users' says, thinks, hears, and does in the loan lending game. I also came up with a journey map to get a more clear picture of a lender in the target market. I then created a user flow diagram with four major flows i.e registering and onboarding, borrowing a loan, paying a loan, and accessing financial advice. I eventually started the design from low fidelity wireframes that we iterated on its flow's logic and fine-tuned it enough then went forward to designing the high fidelity mockups based on these polished wireframes. They looked great and so we had minimal feedback rounds. I prototype the screens to make sure all screens are interactive enough redying it for my client's pitch to his prospects/investors. Before we wrapped up everything, I created a backend admin panel for loan moderators to grant and deny loans to lenders based on their credit bureau scores. To conclude this, I call the whole app design a SUCCESS since my client used the prototypes to pitch his proof of concept and ended up winning an investor for the following round of investment from Y-Combinator.
