What is Applatch Kids:
Applatch Kids is a productivity app designed to boost learning and keep kids engaged, all while tackling the issue of phone addiction. As the lead designer, I managed the project from start to finish. My focus was on creating a user-friendly and secure app that encourages educational development and helps kids manage their screen time effectively.
Features I designed:
Location Tracking: Provides parents with real-time updates on their child’s location, enhancing safety and providing peace of mind.
Educational Quizzes: Daily quizzes that support learning and track educational progress, making learning fun and interactive.
Screen Time Management: The app limits phone use to three hours daily, helping manage screen time and reduce phone addiction.
Content Filtering: Blocks inappropriate content to ensure a safe digital environment for children.
Leaderboards and Gemstones: The app uses leaderboards and a gemstone rewards system to foster healthy competition and encourage positive behavior, boosting user engagement.
Design Approach:
In designing Applatch Kids, I aimed to create a straightforward yet captivating interface for both children and parents. The use of a dark blue background with bright accent colors not only sets the app apart from competitors but also minimizes eye strain for older users. The design ensures an easy and enjoyable experience for children and parents.
Outcome:
With over 1,200 families on board in just the first month, the app has proven to be a valuable resource, effectively supporting children's learning and encouraging healthier screen time habits.
