Client: Greyduck Creative
Role: Motion Designer
Tools: Blender, Adobe Illustrator
Deliverables: Three city skyline animations integrated into a revAlation event introduction video
Project Overview
Greyduck Creative brought me on to help bring part of an event introduction sequence to life. The event was held in three cities—London, Chicago, and Sydney—and each location needed its own animated skyline that matched the tone and pacing of the larger video.
The storyboards were illustrated by Ignacio Loza Coll, and my task was to translate those static visuals into motion that felt layered, cinematic, and connected across all three scenes.
Creative Approach
Since the look was flat and stylized, the challenge was to create depth and rhythm without relying on 3D realism. I used a parallax setup in Blender to give the illusion of dimension—foreground and background elements moving at different speeds as the camera panned through each skyline.
Each city had its own reveal sequence built around cascading motion. Buildings appeared through wipes, masks, and directional transitions that reflected the unique rhythm of that city. London’s reveals felt smooth and elegant, Chicago’s more structured and vertical, and Sydney’s more open and breezy.
Collaboration & Execution
Because this animation had to fit perfectly into a larger piece, communication was everything. Greyduck handled the full event production, and my role was to keep motion language consistent with their broader animation system. Timing, pacing, and visual balance all had to line up seamlessly so my segments would blend naturally with the rest of the intro.
Working closely with Ignacio’s illustrated boards made it easier to stay faithful to the design intent while adding subtle motion details that enhanced each frame.
Outcome
The final skylines were integrated into the event’s opening video, giving each city its own visual identity while maintaining a cohesive overall flow. The parallax and reveal sequences added energy and clarity without distracting from the event branding.
