Fix Technical SEO Issues for Shopify Store

I was hired by Kodiak-Wholesale to fix and optimize technical SEO elements on their Shopify store. The store had SEO challenges related to redirects, site structure, and technical elements that were holding back rankings for collection and product pages.
The Challenge
Kodiak-Wholesale's Shopify store had accumulated technical debt that was suppressing organic visibility. Broken and chained 301 redirects were wasting crawl budget, canonical tags were misconfigured across product variants, collection pages lacked proper optimization, and the site's speed on mobile was below Google's recommended thresholds. For a store relying on organic traffic to drive wholesale orders, these issues had a direct revenue impact.
My Approach
Using Screaming Frog and SEMrush, I ran a full technical audit specific to Shopify's architecture and built a fix plan:
Full Technical SEO Audit: Crawled the entire store to identify every technical issue, from broken links to misconfigured tags. Mapped issues by page type (product, collection, blog, static) to prioritize fixes.
301 Redirects: Cleaned up redirect chains and loops that were wasting crawl budget. Consolidated redirects into single-hop paths and removed unnecessary redirects from deleted products.
Advanced-Level On-Page: Optimized meta titles, descriptions, and H1 tags across collection and product pages with commercial-intent keywords. Improved product descriptions for both search engines and buyers.
Canonical Tags: Fixed canonical tag implementation across product variants and paginated collection pages to prevent duplicate content signals and consolidate ranking authority.
Collection and Product Page Optimization: Restructured collection page content with keyword-rich descriptions, improved internal linking between related collections and products, and optimized product page schema.
Site Speed and Mobile Optimization: Compressed images, deferred non-critical scripts, and optimized Shopify theme code to improve load times. Fixed mobile layout issues affecting Core Web Vitals.
The Outcome
The project strengthened the store's technical foundation and improved keyword rankings for key product and collection pages. Crawl efficiency improved, duplicate content signals were eliminated, and the site's mobile performance met Google's standards. The fixes positioned Kodiak-Wholesale for long-term organic growth on Shopify.
