MOST HOTELS DON’T HAVE A BOOKING PROBLEM.
THEY HAVE A BROKEN DIGITAL GUEST JOURNEY.
A guest discovers your hotel.
They like what they see.
So they search for you.
And then the friction begins.
🌐 The website doesn't answer their questions.
📞 They have to call to confirm availability.
💬 They move to WhatsApp to ask about rooms.
🚕 Airport pickup requires another conversation.
🍽️ Restaurant reservations happen somewhere else.
🏨 Conference enquiries require another staff member.
💳 Payment becomes another process entirely.
And eventually, the guest does what is easiest:
They book through a third-party platform.
The hotel may still get the customer.
But it has already lost something important:
CONTROL OF THE GUEST RELATIONSHIP.
This was one of the interesting problems we had to think through while working on the digital transformation of a hotel.
And it changed the way I think about hotel websites.
Because a hotel website should not simply be a digital brochure.
It should be part of the hotel’s revenue infrastructure.
The question isn't:
❌ “Does our hotel have a website?”
The better question is:
❓ “HOW MUCH OF THE GUEST JOURNEY CAN HAPPEN WITHOUT SOMEONE FROM OUR TEAM HAVING TO INTERVENE?”
That changes everything.
01 — DISCOVERY
A potential guest lands on the website.
Within seconds, they should understand:
🏨 What the hotel offers
🛏️ Which rooms fit their needs
📍 Where the property is
🍽️ What other experiences are available
✈️ Whether airport pickup can be arranged
They shouldn't have to hunt for this information.
02 — DECISION
Now the guest is interested.
This is where many hotel websites become surprisingly weak.
Beautiful pictures are not enough.
The guest needs enough information and confidence to make a decision.
Room details.
Amenities.
Pricing.
Availability.
Policies.
Location.
Reviews and trust signals.
The website has to remove uncertainty.
03 — CONVERSION
This is where the business impact becomes obvious.
If someone has already decided they want your hotel, why make them:
Call reception.
Wait for a WhatsApp response.
Send their details manually.
Ask for an account number.
Or leave your website and book somewhere else?
Every additional step is another opportunity to lose the booking.
The digital experience should move naturally from:
👀 INTEREST
🛏️ ROOM SELECTION
📅 AVAILABILITY
💳 PAYMENT
✅ CONFIRMATION
04 — THE STAY
But the opportunity doesn't end when someone books.
What about:
🚕 Airport pickup?
🍽️ Restaurant reservations?
🏢 Conference facilities?
🛎️ Guest requests?
❓ Frequently asked questions?
This is where AI and automation become useful — not because every hotel suddenly needs an “AI chatbot.”
But because guests shouldn't have to wait for reception to answer the same questions repeatedly.
Technology should remove repetitive work from staff while making service feel faster for guests.
05 — AFTER CHECKOUT
This may be the most overlooked part.
A guest leaves.
What happens next?
For many hotels:
Nothing.
The relationship effectively ends at checkout.
But a hotel that owns its guest relationship can understand:
Who stayed.
What they booked.
What they preferred.
Whether they were a business or leisure traveller.
Whether they are likely to return.
And when it makes sense to reconnect.
That turns a booking into something much more valuable:
A CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP.
While working through these problems for ORANTO, the bigger insight became clear:
⚡ THE BEST HOTEL DIGITAL EXPERIENCE DOESN’T JUST HELP PEOPLE BOOK ROOMS.
IT CONNECTS THE ENTIRE GUEST JOURNEY.
Discovery.
Decision.
Booking.
Payment.
Arrival.
Stay.
And eventually...
Return.
Hotels spend enormous amounts of money building beautiful physical experiences.
The lobby.
The rooms.
The restaurant.
The service.
The ambience.
But increasingly, the guest experiences your hotel digitally before they ever walk through the door.
If that experience is broken, part of your hospitality experience is broken too.
Your hotel website shouldn't just tell people where you are.
It should help run the business.
