Proofread and Editing of a Nonfiction, Women's Health Book
Easy Ways to Deal with Menopause is a nonfiction women's health book. The author approached me needing a professional editor to help bring his message to life and ensure it sounded like native English. Being a first-time author with a great message to share, he needed guidance on how to make it shine.
What I Did:
Understanding the Message: I started by reading through the book without making any changes to fully grasp the concepts and message the author wanted to convey. I took notes during this initial read to capture my thoughts and observations.
Copy Edits & Proofreading: During my second read, with the book's full context in mind, I made small copy edits and proofing corrections for grammar, spelling, formatting, and more.
Line Editing: I focused on rewriting sentences, adjusting the tone, order of words, and syntax to ensure everything sounded like native English. Since English is the author's second language and he aimed to publish for English-speaking markets, this step was crucial.
Review & Critique: Whenever I had questions, needed clarification, or wanted to push the author further, I left detailed comments in the right margin to guide his thinking and writing. The author acted on all of these comments, and I reviewed those sections a second time to ensure they met our goals.
