The project
Holoconnects makes Holoboxes, life-size hologram displays used in shops, hotels and events. A person in a studio appears as a live hologram inside a Holobox anywhere in the world and talks to people in real time. I led the frontend for the platform that runs it all: the customer dashboard, the live studio app and the system that shows ads on the displays. The product was shown at CES 2024 and CES 2025.
The challenge
A hologram call only feels real if there is almost no delay. The kiosks needed a reliable peer-to-peer video connection with less than 500ms of latency, while hundreds of displays in different countries also played HD promo content on a schedule. Customers also needed one simple place to see every Holobox, its status and its call queue.
What I built
A Vue.js 3 app that connects to the hologram kiosks, with live, queued and idle status for every Holobox
Live video calls between the studio and each Holobox using WebRTC and Peer.js, with our own TURN/STUN server setup
A live studio view where staff accept, reject and manage incoming calls
An ad management system that schedules content across 500+ displays
Faster real-time messages and push notifications, working with a Laravel and MySQL backend
The results
Video latency under 400ms across 12 countries
500+ displays managed from one ad scheduling system
Shown live at CES 2024 and CES 2025
Tech used: Vue.js 3, TypeScript, WebRTC, Peer.js, Node.js, Laravel, MySQL and Tailwind CSS.
Led the Vue.js frontend and WebRTC video calls for a hologram platform. Under 400ms latency in 12 countries, 500+ displays, shown at CES 2024 and 2025.
