Project Summary
I partnered with Wendy Chuck to design and launch the third version of their website. Previous iterations included a hand-coded site followed by a Squarespace 7.0 build. With her growing portfolio, Wendy required a modern, engaging site (now on Squarespace 7.1) that acts as both a visual archive and a professional hub.
Our top goals were:
Providing a simple, intuitive user experience for busy directors, producers, department heads, and other film industry hiring professionals.
Writing strong SEO for searches related to film credits and Wendy’s name.
Showcasing Wendy’s career through an immersive, cinematic design and easy-to-navigate galleries.
An overview of progression from 2010's handcoded site, to 2017's Squarespace migration, to the current Squarespace 7.1 portfolio Home page.
The Challenge
Wendy’s site needed to do more than look good. Her audience of busy directors, producers, and film fans all need to find credits, visuals, and info fast. We also had thousands of images to sort and showcase, all while capturing a theater-like, cinematic experience and maximizing SEO for film searches.
Our Solution
We first streamlined the user journey with clear menus and bold homepage visuals. Then built immersive galleries with easy sorting by film, director, or year. The new site runs fast, looks epic on any device, and each page is SEO-tuned for top search performance. Visual design choices like dark backgrounds, dramatic spacing, and bold credits frame the portfolio's theatric style.
While analytics show Wendy's site visits are mostly on Desktop, a well designed mobile site is still key.
