Reflections on Depression and Coping

To feel or not to feel.
To breathe and not choke.
To feel everything living and dying at once.
To take a deep breath and know you’re not alone.
To take a look around you and have everyone close but feel so alone.
To feel like you have water seeded in your lungs, in your veins.
But to sleep it all away.
That’s real depression.
You don't have to be constantly doing bad.
You can have good days.
But just like any other day they must always come to an end.
That’s the difference.
Depression knows happiness can’t last.
It always creeps around the corner.
Always nipping at your fingers and toes.
Just like the cold, that is where it thrives.
In long hoodies, and deep dull eyes.
To retract any time the beach comes up.
Because you want to go but know the sorrow it would bring along as a friend.
So, you stay but then feel even more alone.
And then you do what you always do to cope.
But you have to know you aren’t alone.
Because then you’ll keep trying to “Cope”.
Your friends, they are there always willing to lend a hand.
But will you beat it?
Let me know.
